I just got back from a weekend in Vermont, one of my new favourite places, and as we were driving through the countryside admiring the magical colours of the autumn leaves it dawned on me that winter was upon us.
I 🖤 autumn, it is my favourite time of the year. I mean what is there not to like? When practised daily, affirmations can also help you overcome self-sabotaging thought patterns or limiting belief systems.
In summary, positive morning affirmations encourage positive thinking and help you reduce and control any negative thoughts you might have.
Yes, it is a bit like brainwashing for the mind, but in a good way.
Benefits of positive affirmations
I have been working with affirmations for quite a few years now and there are many benefits that come with a regular affirmation practice.
Benefits of using positive affirmations:
- set a positive tone for the day
- help to ease and reduce stress
- boost your mood
- improved focus and clarity
- boost your productivity
- you feel more in control over your thoughts and emotions
- create a more positive outlook towards life
- help to overcome self-sabotaging habits
- help to ease anxieties
- boost your resilience in everyday life

We are all uniquely different, and the benefits of affirmations are likely to feel and show differently for everyone.
However, affirmations encourage mindfulness, helping you to be more aware of your inner dialogue and empowering you to choose thoughts that promote your well-being.
The biggest difference I noticed when I started to work with morning affirmations for positive energy was how affirmations helped me ease my anxieties. I will get more into this topic a bit later in this blog post. Make sure to stay with me if that is something that interests you.

There are different ways how you can work with affirmations and I certainly encourage you to try a few different ways to help you find what works best for you.
Examples of how you can work with your morning affirmations:
- Mirror work – stand in front of the mirror, look into your eyes and repeat your affirmations out loud to yourself
- Journal – if you like to journal, this one might be for you: write your affirmations in a journal
- Meditation – integrate your positive morning affirmations into your morning meditation
- Visualisation – visualise your affirmations; this is a method that can also be combined with your morning meditation
- Speak – speak your affirmations out loud for example when you have your morning coffee
Over the years, I have changed the way I work with affirmations quite a bit, but personally, speaking affirmations out loud, and visualizing and integrating affirmations into my meditation practice works best for me.
So yes, I do a bit of a mix, whatever feels best to me on that day and at that moment.
There are however two important things you have to keep in mind when working with affirmations:
- Consistency – daily practice is key if you are looking to create lasting positive change in your life
- Believe in your affirmations – understand ‘why’ this affirmation is so important to you and ‘how’ this will change your life; feel the joy, happiness, gratitude, etc. associated with the outcomes described in your affirmations

However, once you feel more settled in your affirmation practice, I recommend creating personalized affirmations.
Creating personalized affirmations can make your affirmation practice even more effective as the affirmations will be specifically tailored to your personal needs and desires.
Below are a few tips to help you create your personalized affirmations:
- Identify areas in your life where you would like to improve or grow
- Define exactly what you are looking to improve or grow
- Write your affirmations in your tone of voice
- Be short and precise
- Support your affirmations with positive words
- Write your affirmations in the present tense as if they are happening already
Try writing a few different versions for each affirmation and pick the one that feels most aligned with you for your daily affirmation practice.
Should I have a long list of affirmations or select a few?
Keep your focus and work with 3 – 5 affirmations at a time.

Can positive morning affirmations help with anxiety?
I can only speak for myself and what worked for me might not necessarily work for you, however, in my experience, positive morning affirmations certainly made a difference to my anxieties.
I have been dealing with anxieties most of my life and over the years I have developed a holistic approach to help me better deal with my anxieties.
My daily routines give me a structure, regular yoga and meditation help me to stay grounded, and I do my best to keep a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet and keep an eye on my sugar intake (of course I have cheat days).
In addition to this, I journal to get my thoughts onto paper and the positive morning affirmations helped me to create a more positive mindset and self-image over the years which all positively contributed to finding more inner peace and balance.
Consistency is key my friends. Try your best to practice your affirmations daily. And if you miss them in the morning, do them on the way to work, during your lunchtime walk, etc. it is never too late.
I would say give it at least one month to truly experience the magic. You might start noticing subtle shifts even sooner, but allow some time for the benefits to show. Affirmations are not a quick fix. Nothing that you do for your personal growth is a quick fix.
By staying consistent, you will get a clear sense of how affirmations can boost your mood, mindset, and overall well-being.
