A lot of my students ask me: ‘When is the best time to do yoga?’

To be honest, anytime is perfect. Whether you do yoga in the morning or evening is totally up to you – it all depends on your personal schedule, lifestyle and daily habits.

What matters most is that you keep showing up for yourself.

However, there are certainly some benefits of yoga in the morning that cannot be overlooked.

I established a regular morning yoga practice a few years ago. Back then I was not much of a morning person, but creating a morning routine and incorporating daily morning yoga and meditation into my morning routine changed my life for the better and helped me to ease my anxiety and stress levels.

Apart from that, it helped me to cultivate more self-awareness and self-love which I will be talking about more later on when we look at the 5 benefits of yoga in the morning in more detail.

Do I head to the yoga studio every morning for this? No. I am super slow in the mornings and to keep things simple and efficient I decided to do yoga at home.

How you start your day matters as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you start your day feeling stressed and running behind your schedule, you are likely to carry this feeling with you and the rest of the day is likely to look the same as your morning.

Morning yoga isn’t just a workout, it is the gateway to a happier and more fulfilled life.

5 Ultimate benefits of yoga in the morning

Trust me, this practice can kickstart your day in the most amazing and supportive way. Get ready to transform your mornings and feel the positive impact of yoga on your entire day.

1. Boost your energy levels

What’s the first thing you do after waking up? A big morning stretch, right?

It’s totally normal to wake up feeling a bit tense and stiff. Our bodies and muscles finally get a chance to rest during sleep, so naturally, your body craves a good stretch when waking up to shake off that stiffness.

Morning yoga is like a shot of natural espresso, stimulating your senses and energizing your entire being.

With each mindful breath and purposeful movement, your muscles awaken, blood circulation increases, and every cell is infused with fresh oxygen.

Morning yoga helps you shake off the morning grogginess and kickstart your day with vitality.

Embrace energy and transform your morning into a time of renewal and set yourself up for a successful day.

2. Enhanced mood, boost happiness from within

Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.

I 🖤 ‘Legally Blonde’, hence I could not resist to put this quote in here.

Movement naturally uplifts your mood by triggering the release of endorphins, the body’s feel-good hormones.

Imagine starting each day feeling light, positive and emotionally balanced.

Apart from that, yoga helps to strengthen your body and this inner strength will boost your self-confidence which will spark even more positive thoughts.

Morning yoga isn’t just a workout, it is the gateway to a happier and more fulfilled life.

3. Cultivate self-awareness and self-love

Yoga helps to cultivate self-awareness and self-love by encouraging a deep connection with your mind, body and soul.

Through mindful breathing and intentional movements, you become more attuned to your physical sensations, thoughts, and emotions.

This heightened awareness allows you to understand your needs and limits, fostering a sense of compassion and acceptance towards yourself.

As you practice, you learn to appreciate your body for its strengths and capabilities, rather than focusing on its imperfections.

This journey of self-discovery and appreciation encourages self-love, helping you build a positive and harmonious relationship with yourself.

4. Boost focus and mental clarity

Kickstarting your day with yoga is like tuning your mind to a higher frequency.

Yoga is moving meditation. As you flow through yoga poses and focus on your breath, you clear away mental clutter and create space for clarity and concentration.

This will boost your focus throughout the day and allow you to handle challenges with a calm mind and a graceful attitude.

Regular yoga practice will help you calm the mind, and reduce anxiety and stress levels overall.

Welcome the tranquillity and see your productivity rise as the day unfolds.

5. Set an intention for the day

Behind every action we take lies an intention, and being aware of it is the key to creating happiness.

Morning yoga offers an opportunity to set a powerful intention for the day. It’s your chance to define a clear purpose and direction, ensuring that every step you take aligns with your core values, long-term goals, dreams and desires.

Remember, you are the creator of your life – what you focus on, you create and manifest.

Use your morning yoga practice to take a moment to visualize your aspirations and set a meaningful intention for the day.

This mindful start will guide you throughout the day, empowering you to live more consciously and joyfully.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about starting your day with a healthy habit. Starting your day with morning yoga sets a positive tone for the rest of your day, encouraging you to make mindful choices and stay committed to your physical and mental well-being.

This consistent practice fosters discipline and creates a sense of accomplishment, as you carve out time for self-care every morning.

Over time, this healthy habit will turn into a morning routine, helping you ground yourself, and provide a sense of stability in life.

Benefits of yoga in the morning FAQ

How long should I do yoga in the morning?

This is completely up to you and how much time and space you would like to create for yourself.

I always recommend starting small; already a 5 minute morning yoga routine can make a huge difference to the rest of your day.

Most importantly stay consistent with your morning yoga practice. Consistency is key if you are looking to make morning yoga a new healthy habit.

As you get more comfortable, you can gradually extend the time of your morning yoga practice.

What type of yoga is best for the morning?

The best type of yoga for your morning yoga practice depends on what you’re looking to achieve and how you feel when you wake up.

Personally, I am super slow in the morning, hence my preference is gentle morning stretches to start my day followed by meditation and journaling.

Ultimately, the best type of yoga is the one that feels right for you and fits your morning routine. Experiment with different styles to find what resonates with your body and helps you start the day feeling your best.

Is it good to do yoga right after waking up?

Again, this depends on your personal preference.

For me, it is always coffee first as I do need a bit of time to wake up before I can think about doing morning yoga.

Be mindful of how your body feels in the morning. If you’re feeling particularly stiff or tired, consider starting with gentle stretches and gradually increasing the intensity of your practice as your body wakes up.

Tip: Stay away from your phone in the morning. Make the mornings your self-care time. The hustle and bustle of the day is bound to follow. Allow yourself a break to clear your mind and set yourself up for a successful day.
