12 Best Autumn self-care ideas
Whether you’re winding down after a busy day, or seeking serene moments in the autumn hustle, this guide features the best 12 autumn self-care ideas to make your autumn days magical.
1. Create a cosy ambience in your home
Autumn ushers in a new season, and as the days get shorter, we often find ourselves cosying up indoors.
This is the perfect time to create a sanctuary where you can truly unwind and relax. Imagine a space filled with soft lighting, warm hues, and plush seating, all enhanced by natural elements that bring the outdoors inside.
Transform your home into an autumn haven with twinkling fairy lights and the gentle glow of candles. Pile on extra pillows, throws, and blankets in your living room and bedroom for that ultimate snug feeling.
Embrace the season’s charm by decorating with chestnuts, vibrant autumn leaves, and pumpkins, inviting all the beauty and colours of fall into your home.
2. Do a digital detox
This is one of my favourite self-care ideas and if you are regular on this blog, I am pretty sure you have come across this one before.
Lean into some real quality time and do a digital detox.
Switch off your phone…Pour yourself a nice and relaxing bath with all your favourite bath bubbles and essential oils, light some candles and get ready to soak and destress.
For the rest of the evening, take some time to journal, read a book or spend time doing a hobby.
A digital detox improves mental health, enhances sleep quality, boosts productivity, promotes physical well-being, and strengthens personal relationships by reducing screen time and encouraging more meaningful, offline interactions and activities.
3. Start a gratitude journal
A gratitude journal is like a personal diary where you regularly record things/events, etc. you are thankful for.
A gratitude journal aims to focus your attention on the positive aspects of life, helping you foster a more positive mindset and create more joy, happiness and abundance in your life long-term.
The top 5 benefits of a regular gratitude practice are improved mental health, enhanced physical health, improved relationships, higher self-esteem and living more in the present moment.

4. Create your autumn movie list
Creating an autumn movie list offers a great way to embrace the cosy vibes of the season.
Start by thinking about the movies that make you feel warm and nostalgic. Those with beautiful autumnal scenery, heartwarming stories, or a touch of seasonal magic.
Consider classic films that evoke the spirit of fall, such as “When Harry Met Sally,” “Hocus Pocus,” or “Dead Poets Society.”
Mix in a variety of genres, from romantic comedies and dramas to family-friendly animations and of course add some spooky Halloween favourites.
Once you have your list, plan a few movie nights with all the cosy essentials: soft blankets, fluffy pillows, hot chocolate, and a selection of your favourite snacks.
5. Nourish your body with some soul food
As the seasons shift and the crisp autumn air sets in, our bodies naturally crave comforting, soul-warming foods rather than the light salads of summer.
Autumn is the ideal season to explore some hearty soup recipes.
Soups are not only delicious but also an excellent way to stay hydrated. Packed with the right ingredients and spices, they can also give your immune system a much-needed boost during the cooler months.
For the ultimate cosy meal, pair your homemade soup with fresh sourdough bread, creamy butter, and a selection of rich cheeses.
Tip: Pinterest is a great source for free recipes.
6. Reconnect with your hobby
As we get ready to spend more time indoors, it’s the perfect time to reconnect with your favourite hobby.
Engaging in a hobby can bring physical and mental health benefits, such as helping to reduce stress, boost creativity, provide an outlet for self-expression, etc.
Immerse yourself in activities that feed your soul and nourish your mind. Whether it’s knitting a cosy scarf, filling your sketchbook with autumn-inspired art, baking, etc.
Reconnecting with your creative side helps to uplift your mood, spark inspiration, and infuse your life with happiness and a sense of purpose.
7. Savor the beauty of the season with an autumn walk
Head out for an autumn walk and immerse yourself in the season’s beauty.
The natural beauty of autumn offers a peaceful backdrop that can help clear your mind and reduce stress. Take time to pause and appreciate the intricate patterns of fallen leaves, the gentle rustling of branches, and the earthy aroma of the season.
An autumn walk is not just about physical activity; it’s also a chance to reconnect with nature and enjoy moments of quiet reflection.
8. Boost your immune system
Prepare your body for the seasonal shift and boost your immune system naturally.
Eat seasonal foods that provide your body with essential vitamins and nutrients tailored to this time of year.
Enhance your meals with powerful spices like turmeric, ginger, garlic, and oregano, known for their immune-boosting properties.
Incorporate these into your dishes or start your day with ginger or turmeric shots to give your immune system a natural boost.
Take this opportunity to actively strengthen your body and well-being as you embrace the cosy, crisp winter days ahead.
9. Try a full moon ritual
The full moon marks the completion of a cycle. It is a time of celebration and invites us to slow down, take a step back and appreciate how far we have come and what we have learned and accomplished along the way.
Celebrating a full moon ritual offers an opportunity for us to release and let go of what is no longer in alignment with our essence.
Moon rituals are powerful rituals supporting your personal growth and development, empowering you to live the best version of yourself and keep your focus on creating a life aligned with your deepest dreams and desires, a life with meaning and purpose.

10. DIY your Halloween costume
Now this is my favorite autumn self-care idea 🖤.
Why settle for a store-bought Halloween costume when you can craft your one-of-a-kind creation?
Check your wardrobe and fancy dress box, I am pretty sure you will find some hidden gems there. If not, try a vintage or local charity shop. These places are also great for finding unique pieces that will give your Halloween costume an original flair.
For an extra spooky touch, fake blood and coloured contact lenses always do the trick.
Let your creativity run wild, and get ready to shine 🖤.
11. Host a casual Sunday afternoon tea
Invite your favourite ladies over for a casual afternoon tea and homemade treats.
Put on your baking gloves and start baking. Think of seasonal fruits like pumpkin pie, apple cinnamon rolls, plum pie, etc. Get creative with some fresh fruits and seasonal spices.
The combination of sweet treats and heartfelt conversations makes for a perfect, laid-back Sunday afternoon.
Homemade, embraced with love – enjoy.

Autumn self-care FAQ
How to mentally prepare for fall?
For many people, the fall season can be a bit heavy on the soul. I totally understand. Having a daily routine like for example a morning or an evening routine in place can be a great support.
In addition, try to focus on the beauty of autumn, the beautiful nature setting, apple picking, pumpkins, hearty meals with seasonal vegetables, the Halloween season, etc.
Make your home as comfortable as possible and get cosy with a book that inspires you, pick a new Netflix series that is easy on the soul, focus on your gratitude practice, get creative doing a hobby, etc. focus on things that feed your soul and personal development. And of course spice up your self-care routine with a few autumn self-care activities from above.
What’s your self-care routine for your mental health?
My three go to self-care practices that build my self-care routine to support my mental health are:
- regular movement – yoga and nature walks
- journaling – either daily or weekly, but at least once a week
- get creative – in autumn more than ever I love to get creative doing a hobby, baking, cooking, etc
In addition to this, I also suggest regular gratitude practice and/or positive affirmations to support your mental health.

After that, wrap up warm and head to the local farmers market to get your fruits and vegetables for the week.

In the evening, dim the lights, switch on your fairy lights and light a few candles. Prepare yourself a nice healthy meal with fresh ingredients from the farmers market, pick a light-hearted Netflix movie and crochet, maybe work on your Halloween costume, etc.
