I don’t know about you, but when I look back at my life, for many years, life simply happened to me and without even knowing I was floating along with it. Don’t get me wrong, I had a good life.

In my late 20s, I followed my dream and moved to London. I got myself a job in the shiny advertising world.

I was working hard to build a career for myself, I had a buzzing social life and a big circle of international friends. I got to travel a lot for work, but travelling has always been a passion of mine, so I also made sure to have some travel adventures in my private life. For many years I loved the life that I created for myself.

But as much as I loved the life that I created for myself, at some point I felt that something was missing.

I noticed that I was steadily thriving for that next thing (e.g. a new job, a promotion, a new flat, a boyfriend, etc.) that would change my life and finally make me happy. But every time I got it, it just felt like ticking off another check box on my list and it did not bring me the happiness I thought it would.

Today I can tell you that I lacked purpose. But back then I did not have a clue.

Whether you’re seeking greater clarity, fulfilment, or a deeper sense of connection, intentional living offers a pathway to achieving these goals.

1. Set clear goals

Goals give your life direction and purpose. Without clear goals, it’s easy to drift aimlessly.

2. Prioritize your core values

Core values or personal core values are unique and are different for everyone.

They highlight what we stand for, shape our beliefs and principles and reflect what matters most to us.

Whether they are conscious or unconscious, core values guide your choices and decision-making process in daily life.

Consider your core values as guiding principles supporting your personal growth, finding life balance, long-lasting happiness and a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

Take time to identify your core values and start to prioritize them in your daily life by making choices that are aligned with these principles.

3. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the current moment.

It helps you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, reducing stress and increasing clarity.

Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine through practices such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply paying attention to your senses while performing everyday activities.

This can extend to your digital life by organizing files and limiting screen time.

Simplification also involves prioritizing tasks and commitments, focusing on quality over quantity in all aspects of your life.

5. Limit distractions

Distractions can derail your efforts to live intentionally.

Identify common distractions in your life, such as social media, television and streaming, procrastination activities, etc. and take steps to minimize them.

Set boundaries by designating specific times for checking emails or using social media, and create a focused work environment by eliminating unnecessary interruptions.

  1. This is all sooo accurate to me! I’m feeling like I’m just floating through life at the moment. I want to bite the bullet, move away and live my life, just figuring out my next steps as they come but no one else seems to agree with my plans so maybe this is a sign to listen to my gut?

    1. Hi Elaine, thanks for your comment. I can totally hear ya. Meditation helped me a lot in situations like this. And also asking my guardian angels for guidance. I know what you mean though, these transition periods can really challenge our patience and trust. Sending you lots of love & light ?.
